KRIEGER PROJECT GALLERY
Getty Museum
When the Getty Museum needed a permanent solution to replace its temporary exhibition closure
panels, Krieger developed a “pocket door” system that could be easily pulled out of the wall to allow museum personnel to close off its large galleries from the public when needed. This project
presented a unique design challenge to blend function and aesthetic form.
Pocket Door with a Wicket Door
The pocket door slides out of the wall and replaces the need to use temporary mobile panels to close off exhibitions. The wicket door allows access in and out of the galleries.
The wicket door is was designed to blend seamlessly into the sliding panel with the use of invisible hinges, a recessed exit device, a concealed closer, and a flush vision lite.
To conceal the
wicket door, the frame and hardware were engineered to blend seamlessly into the sliding panel.

Invisible hinges, a recessed exit device, a concealed closer, and a flush vision lite all made for a perfectly smooth and beautiful design.
The design of the sliding panels called for an aesthetic feature that is unusual to a commercial setting—a wicket door—a small door forming part of a larger door or gate used to close off an entrance.
Special attention during the installation process ensured that the sliders would function properly in the tight space of the wall partition.
Krieger designed and manufactured oversized curved windows for the museum entrance hall.
