Step 1

The pressure anchors, if used, need to be adjusted with a Phillips Head Screwdriver so that the pressure anchor becomes flush with the frame. This is done so that no grout will get between the pressure anchor and the frame. If grout gets behind the pressure anchor, it will be very difficult to adjust in order to place the frame into the rough opening.

Adjust the pressure anchors.

A properly adjusted pressure anchor is flush with the side of the frame.

Step 2

Taping is the second step of the grouting procedure. The pressure anchor needs to be taped all around. Also tape up the mud boxes around each butt reinforcement and each seal screw hole (the two pieces of tape on each side of the pressure anchor - goes all the way up the frame). The tape around the pressure anchor will not affect the adjustability after the grout dries around it.

The ends of the frame should be taped up to prevent the grout from spilling out. It is best to cut a piece of cardboard and tape it to both ends of the frame.

Taping up the edges of the returns will help with the cleanup after the grout has dried. A well prepped frame should look like this.

Step 3

Preparing the grout. This can be done in a bucket. Start with the bucket being about a quarter full of water, then slowly add the powder grout. Mix together until smooth and add more grout/water as needed. Consistency at the end should be fairly thick and smooth.

Step 4

Start pouring in the grout carefully. Pour the grout evenly. In order to spread and make the grout smooth, lightly tap the underside of the frame. The grout line should be almost even with the bottom of the returns

To top off the level of the grout, it is easier to get a smaller container.

This shows the frame fully grouted. The grout is still wet. Notice that the level of the grout should be fairly even throughout the length of the frame. The level should not be any higher than the returns of the frame.

Step 5

These are final pictures of a fully grouted frame. After the grout has fully dried, the tape on the returns can be removed. Any excess grout that may have spilled out can be chipped off. Drying time is between 20 to 30 minutes.

These are frames grouted incorrectly. It will take more time to smooth out this surface opposed to smoothing while grout is still wet.
